Paul Gielau began his career with the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office in the summer of 1985 working as a part-time jailer/dispatcher while attending Law Enforcement training at Alexandria Vo-Tech. After graduating with an associate degree in law enforcement in 1986, Paul was hired full time and continued to work in the Goodhue County jail and dispatch areas until 1988 when he was promoted to a full time road patrol position..
In 1995 Paul was promoted to a road patrol Sergeant, a position he held until being promoted to an Investigator position in 2008. As an investigator Paul was assigned to work narcotics and worked closely with the Southeast Minnesota Narcotics and Violent Crimes Task Force..
In February 2015 Sheriff McNurlin promoted Paul to his present position as Patrol Commander. As Patrol Commander, Paul provides administrative, supervisory, and technical assistance in the day to day operation of the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office.
