“It was helpful to learn what worked well for others and what didn’t work. Without Live Well Goodhue County we would not have been able to connect with other workplace wellness programs in our area."

Workplace Wellness Partner Story:

Continuing to build on Wellness.

Workforce Development Inc (WDI) had just recently revived our volunteer Wellness Team when a meeting in Red Wing regarding The Statewide Health Improvement Program was announced.

Our chairperson attended and learned about Live Well Goodhue County from coordinator, David Anderson, who shared how he works with area businesses. We found a perfect fit for what our team was trying to accomplish. Our volunteer chair regularly attended meetings and she immediately saw value in learning from other local businesses. Live Well Goodhue County provided additional structure to keep WDI moving forward, creating a stronger culture of wellness at WDI.

WDI was able to connect with the City of Red Wing to receive a bulk discount on our order of Fitbits® to give as an employee incentive. This was an opportunity entirely due to the networking opportunities provided by attending regular meetings with Live Well Goodhue County.

With regard to the Statewide Health Improvement Program goals, WDI chose to focus on the strategy of healthy food. We were able to create a policy which included having healthy food choices available at regular meetings when food was provided. A healthy catering policy was also created along with a list of vendor options in the area.Apples Stacked on Plate

The Wellness Team also created a vision statement and had a contest to name the worksite wellness program. WDI employees were invited to submit a name, tag line and logo. The winning entry has been featured on a reusable grocery tote. The tote is being given to staff who sign up for the “Eat Your VEGGIES!” challenge and they are encouraged to fill up the bag with healthy veggies every time they grocery shop.

WDI has regular meetings where all the staff from our ten county service area are invited to connect and learn together. At a next meeting, a nutritionist will be invited to share simple healthy menu ideas and instruction. This will further support our goal to eat healthy.

WDI has been grateful for the opportunity to receive support and guidance from David Anderson, Live Well Goodhue County coordinator and the Statewide Health Improvement Program. We intend to use the tools we've learned to continue building an even stronger culture of wellness at Workforce Development Incorporated.

"It was great to have dedicated time to network with others regarding wellness and have the guidance from David to continue to build our wellness program.”
