Healthy Eating in Schools Partner Story:

Cannon Falls Area Schools ‘Digs In’

The Cannon Kids Summer program

Digging in(to the dirt) was the first of many steps in preparing a beautiful garden area on the North side of the Elementary building. The garden is in the shape of a giant CF! It has seating inside and a fence around it, to help protect it from our friendly deer, rabbits and other hungry animals. The garden project started with an idea from Elementary teacher Deanne Coleman and members of the School Garden Committee.

The project has grown (no pun intended) so much, that we felt we needed to give it a storage area of its own. With the help of our custodial staff, the new storage house was completed in July 2017. The children attending the Cannon Kids Summer program had the opportunity to water and care for the garden as well as harvest and eat several of the items!

We are grateful for Live Well Goodhue County and SHIP for their ongoing support and efforts in the healthy partnerships they create everyday!

**The marinara sauce they made for Italian Dunker day was DELICIOSO!
