The Southeastern Minnesota GIS Users Group (SEMNUG) was originally founded in 1998 and after a four-year hiatus, was re-formed in February 2004 and has been meeting on a quarterly basis ever since. The users group covers a geographic area including the 11 county region of the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) District #9, though GIS users from any area are welcome.
The main goal of this users group is to foster a stronger GIS community in the southeastern part of Minnesota. Currently, there are over 60 GIS users on the group’s email distribution list who represent local, state, and federal agencies, non-profit groups, and private entities. Users group meetings are held quarterly at different locations around the region and usually include an overview of GIS projects completed or in-progress by the host agency, tips/tricks, and presentations about various other GIS topics.
In 2007, users group members voted to create a Steering Committee to be made up of six members to assist with setting meeting dates and agendas, and other duties as needed. In July 2010, members chose to have elections again for the Steering Committee and agreed on 3-year terms for the Committee members. Current Steering Committee members are:
Shawn Gertken – Wabasha County
Leanne Knott - City of Red Wing
Ryan Moore – Rochester Public Utilities
Sarah Schrader - Goodhue County
Michelle Trager – Rice County
Dave Wavrin – Steele County
