Initial training is specifically designed to help prepare you for your first foster child. Ongoing training is tailored to your needs as a foster parent. You will also receive guidance from social worker, therapists, and health care professionals.
Goodhue County Social Services works with foster parents to determine the age, gender, and needs of children best suited for placement in their home. When making a placement, factors considered include the location of the child's home, location of the foster home, school, and the special needs of the child. Foster parents can decline placements.
Foster parents are reimbursed for food, clothing and supplies. The Minnesota Department of Human Services sets the reimbursement rate based on a child’s age and needs.
