Quit Smoking
Smoking harms the health of smokers and of nonsmokers who are exposed to tobacco smoke.  Smoking causes nearly one out of every five deaths each year in the United States – approximately 438,000 deaths.  People who stop smoking experience immediate and long-term health benefits.

About 70% of U.S. adult smokers report they want to quit.  Most smokers are chemically dependent on the nicotine contained in tobacco.  Nicotine is as addictive as heroin, cocaine or alcohol.   Most smokers have to try several times before they succeed in quitting for good.

Studies show that smokers are much more likely to succeed in quitting if they work with a trained quit smoking counselor to make a personalized plan for quitting.  Important parts of a quit plan include getting support from friends, family and/or on-line communities, along with correctly using quit smoking medication.  Everyone who lives, works or goes to school in Minnesota can get free help to quit smoking.
