Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP)
The Minnesota Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) was signed into law in 2008 and was an integral part of Minnesota’s health care reform legislation to improve health and decrease health care costs. The goal of SHIP is to help Minnesotans live longer, better, healthier lives by preventing the chronic disease risk factors of physical inactivity, poor nutrition and tobacco use and exposure. 2011 to 2013 SHIP funding was cut by 70% and so instead of 87 counties, there are now only 51 counties funded by SHIP. Goodhue County is not a current recipient of SHIP funding.
Goodhue County Public Health Service received funding from SHIP in 2009 through 2011 to work in four areas: School nutrition, Active Communities, Comprehensive Worksite Wellness and Active Referral of patients to local resources.
