Scott T. McNurlin, Sheriff

Sheriff Scott McNurlin has worked his entire career with the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office beginning in December of 1983, and he has worked in virtually every facet of the office.  Scott began his career as a jailer/dispatcher, and he was later promoted through the ranks to serve as a Patrol Deputy, School Resource Deputy, Investigator, Tactical Team Commander, and he served as retired Sheriff Dean Alber’s Chief Deputy from January of 1998 until January 4, 2011 when he was sworn in as Goodhue County’s newly elected Sheriff.

Scott earned a master’s degree in Police Leadership, Administration, and Education from the University of St. Thomas in 2006, a bachelor’s degree in an Individualized Degree Program from Metropolitan State University in 2004, an associate’s degree in Law Enforcement from Inver Hills Community College in 1986, and a certificate in Human Resource Management from Hamline University in 2004.  He is also a 2001 graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy in Quantico, VA., and a 2006 graduate of the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS).  Sheriff McNurlin is also an Adjunct Professor at Minnesota State College Southeast Technical teaching the tenets of Community Oriented Policing, Problem Oriented Policing, and Intelligence-led Policing.
